    Looking for a Canadian getaway? We have just the place for you! Edmonton is the capital city of Alberta, Canada and is located on the glacier-fed North Saskatchewan River. As if Canada as a country wasn’t lovely enough, this particular location is as picturesque as it is idyllic. If you find yourself heading up this way, here are 5 campgrounds that will make your Edmonton experience.

     

    Elk Island Retreat
     


     

    Elk Island Retreat is unique in that it's not just an RV campground, but is an authentic tipi campground as well. Experience Canada’s Aboriginal culture while you escape the city life for relaxation and self-reflection. This secluded campground tucked back in the Albertan woods was assessed by the county as being in a High Priority Wildlife Habitat Unit. In addition to tenting sites and 4 tipis located on the property, Elk Island also offers trapper cabins complete with 12 wooden bunk beds, wood floors, and a wood burning stove. If you are wanting to take a group vacation, the trapper cabin could be a great option for you. The RV daily rental prices are very affordable as well. Each of these sites includes a firepit and picnic table to make your experience more enjoyable. Washrooms and changerooms are also available on site, too. There’s plenty to do at Elk Island Retreat as the grounds are littered with hiking trails, horseshoe pits, and a volleyball net. The retreat is located just 10 minutes away from shopping in Saskatchewan. Elk Island retreat is also walking distance from Elk Island National Park, which is notorious for its wildlife sightings.
     


     

    Campers are encouraged to explore the park during their stay at Elk Island Retreat. If you’re looking for a one-stop shop during your Canadian adventure, this is the campground for you.
     

    Rainbow Valley Campground and RV Park
     


     

    Rainbow Valley Campgrounds is located right along the banks of the Whitemud Creek, and consequently provides the perfect Canadian backdrop for your camping experience. This park offers 41 power sites in addition for 44 natural sites. The grounds have a small convenience store, laundry facilities, as well as free showers. There is a large playground on site for the kiddos, too. Wood burning stoves and two large cook areas provide plenty of convenience for your campsite cooking. The grounds are located just off a major highway and are easy to access from wherever you may be traveling. Additionally, the grounds are filled with shoreline hiking trails that are fun for the whole family. If you imagine yourself waking up and watching a Canadian sunrise creep over the fog settling on a nearby bed of water, look no further than Rainbow Valley Campground and RV Park.
     

    Memory Lane Campground and RV Park 
     


     

    Memory Lane Campground is located on a grassy knoll between two curtains of Canadian pines. This site has a catch and release pond located at the park’s center which provides breathtaking views as well as hours of entertainment. The office grounds sell firewood, cold beverages and other camping goods you may find yourself needing. Each campsite includes a firepit and picnic table as well as shower access. This campground prides itself on being safe and is regularly monitored by on-site patrol staff. The secluded location allows campers to run free while flying kites, playing horseshoes, or hiking the nearby nature trail. At nightfall, campers are able to view the northern lights as well as meteor showers in the clear Canadian night sky. If you are looking for an open area to let the kids run off some energy, or are wanting to catch some Canadian trout, this is the site for you.
     

    Glowing Embers RV Park and Travel Centre
     


     

    If you’re looking for a park that has a prestigious reputation, look no further than Glowing Embers. This is said to be the largest and cleanest RV park in the area. Glowing Embers is located just minutes away from several different golf courses as well as the well-renown West Edmonton Mall. This park offers nearly 300 sites and has plenty of room to expand. Complete with an onsite banquet hall that seats over 200 people, Glowing Embers is perfect for group events, reunions, wedding receptions, and more. The grounds also have a convenience store, an arcade, a full laundromat, wireless internet, a workout facility, and a recreation hall, each of which is well-maintained by an onsite caretaker. If you are looking for a campsite that is well-established and has a reputation for quality, this is the site for you.
     

    St. Albert Kinsmen RV Park 
     


     

    St. Albert is a quaint little mountain town just outside of Edmonton. The kinsmen of St. Albert claim that they recognize the RV culture and population and want to welcome and accommodate travelers with a handshake and a helpful attitude. This 93 site campground has only been opened for 5 years, and as a result is in top shape.The paved roads make traveling in and out hassle-free. The scenic views can be taken in while hiking, cycling, or strolling along the nature trails in the nearby Red Willow Park or Lois Hole Centennial Provincial Park. This site also features a banquet center that accommodates up to 360 people, as well as an outdoor gathering spot for large groups. If you’re wanting a tranquil getaway and a welcome that makes you feel like you’re visiting old friends, this is the place for you.
