Seeing the country from an RV is an amazing experience that everyone should have at least once. However, being on the road for weeks – or months –  can take a toll on your healthy habits. But it doesn’t have to. Keep reading for expert tips and tricks on how to keep your health intact while the wheels keep on turning.

    Sleep Well

Sleep is your most precious commodity when you’re traveling, especially in an RV, which can be small and cramped. You may be forced to share your sleep space a little more intimately than you desire. If you’re not sleeping well, you’ll know it upon rising. You may feel groggy, disoriented and have little enthusiasm for the sights and sounds along your route. If you find yourself with more aches and pains than energy, it’s probably time to upgrade your mattress, especially if it’s been more than seven years since replacing the bedding in your RV. To make an informed decision, refer to this guide for the best options. The Trek With Us blog also recommends ensuring that your RV has adequate airflow and that your sheets and blankets are breathable.

    Upgrade your Fridge

Just as important as sleep is the way you eat throughout your travels. Your RV has a place to cook so take advantage of it. Before you fire up the oven, it’s important to make sure that you have a refrigerator that can accommodate a variety of foods – at least enough to make sure you can eat well for two or three days without having to maneuver your rig into a small grocery store parking lot. RVShare explains that RV refrigerators, just like those found home, may have different capacities, even if they fit into the same size space. If you have room, you can also add a small portable freezer.

    Prioritize (portable) Fitness

Take your workout with you with portable exercise equipment such as a jump rope, resistance bands, and inflatable exercise ball. You don’t need much space to sneak in a suitable sweat session.

    Choose your Stops Wisely

When taking a road trip, it’s important to know where you’re going and map out the best locations according to your goals. If one of these is to maintain a fitness routine, plan to hook up at an RV resort in close proximity to the amenities that help you do just that. Campanda magazine’s list of 15 luxury RV resorts is a great place to start and features locations with swimming, hiking, boating, and other active lifestyle activities. Other location considerations include air-quality and bad weather. Since you’re traveling in your own accommodations, you have the freedom to change your location. Keep tabs on upcoming storms and areas with poor breathability so you can avoid being stuck inside your RV for days on end.

    Health Matters

No matter how closely you pay attention to your diet, exercise and sleep habits, there’s always the chance that you’ll get sick en route to your next destination. But finding a doctor on the highways and byways isn’t always easy. Thankfully, technology has made it easier than ever to access quality health care, especially for common ailments such as the cold and flu or minor injuries. There are a number of healthcare apps, including Doctor on Demand that can help you access a service provider no matter where you are as long as you have access to the Internet.

You don’t have to sacrifice your health and well-being in order to enjoy a road trip, no matter the length. Keeping yourself strong and healthy while traveling is a matter of common sense. Eat well, get enough rest and maintain a fitness routine that works for you.
